Albert Cannitelli MD FRCP

Biography

Dr. Albert Cannitelli studied at the University of Toronto as an undergraduate, where he subsequently completed medical school. He pursued a paediatric residency at the Hospital for Sick Children. He has worked in the greater Toronto area in several hospitals including HRRH, WOHC and Mackenzie Health. Over the years, his work has included hospitalist, consultant and primary care. With further training at HSC in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), he has been an ambassador for POCUS in the office setting. He completed a mini fellowship in children's mental health to help improve mental wellness for children in the community. He has an interest in obesity and nutrition, and hopes to collaborate in studying Vitamin D levels in children. Clinical teaching has included University of Toronto medical students as part of their Paediatric rotation, elective students, family practice residents and nurse practitioner students.

As medical students we encounter many teachers along the way. Reflecting on those that helped guide me, I feel fortunate to have had doctors who took an interest in not only clinical teaching, but in mentoring and demonstrating empathy, and the art of medicine. I am proud to be a part of the University of Toronto teaching program and try to impart on students the teachings that guided me along the way.

Established by the Faculty of Medicine in 2012 the Community Based Teaching Awards recognize the significant contribution of an increasing number of University of Toronto community-based teachers to the learning of medical students and residents.
