Biography

Dr. Szumacher’s work in Continuous Professional Development embedded in interprofessional work environment with an interprofessional focus is multifaceted and innovative in how it not only engages staff and faculty, but also patients, focusing on how teams can better work and communicate with each other to provide high quality cancer care. She has been engaged in CPD with an interprofessional focus for more than 15 years.

Dr. Szumacher has organized and participated in the planning of several different conferences focusing on interprofessional learning in radiation oncology. As Co-chair of the International Cancer Education Conference in October 2020 and as a conference planning committee member with several Sunnybrook Education conferences, she brought forward her experience working in a highly interdisciplinary field. She helped ensure that these conferences were planned by interprofessional planning committees that were representative of the target audience.

In the last two years Dr. Szumacher is collaborating with her European and American colleagues has developed a Leadership Course Essential Skills in Cancer Education which was successfully presented at the International Cancer Education Annual in 2020 meeting and will be presented at the ICEC in 2021 and European Association of Cancer Education meeting in Krakow, Poland in December in 2021.
