Biography

Dr. Peter Wong is a recognized sustained and effective clinical teacher. He completed his postgraduate training in Paediatrics and Cardiology at SickKids. He is Fellow of Royal College of Physician, American Academy Pediatrics, and American College of Preventive Medicine; and is Associate Professor, Paediatrics and Adjunct Professor, Dalla Lana School of Public Health.

Peter’s community practice serves a priority neighbourhood providing exemplary care to complex patients with high medical and social needs. He makes exceptional contributions to the learning environment of medical students by role modeling, demonstrating interprofessional collaboration and embracing inclusion and diversity – while championing the social determinants that support health and well-being of children. His advocacy extends as Director, Toronto Board of Health and Rexdale Community Health Centre and Advisory Committee SickKids Centre for Healthy Active Kids.

Peter has been recognized for excellence in community-based teaching by all MD program academies. Furthermore, the OMA, City of Toronto and Canadian Paediatric Society have acknowledged his community service.

About the Award

This award recognizes sustained (normally 10 years) excellence in community-based teaching, and may include mentorship, the integration of scholarship in teaching and interprofessional collaboration.

Established by the Faculty of Medicine in 2012 the Community Based Teaching Awards recognize the significant contribution of an increasing number of University of Toronto community-based teachers to the learning of medical students and residents.
