Edward Etchells

Biography

I am a staff physician in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Women’s College Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University of Toronto. I am grateful to the many students and residents who have taught me so much. I have also learned from great teachers outside of medicine. At my first Tae Kwon Do class, I described my numerous physical limitations to my very accomplished teacher. He said “No problem. Let’s get started”. After a frustrating Yoga class, my teachers will share a personalized tip then say “see you tomorrow”. In both cases, my expert teachers assess my individual needs, formulate an individualized plan for best next steps, and then give me some encouragement. My favorite moments are when old students say “I remember when you taught me this and it is still useful”. Thank you to my colleagues in the Department and Faculty for their support, with a special shout out to Dr. Lynfa Stroud and Dr. Michelle Hladunewich.
