Continuing Professional Development Awards
Biography
Marianne Koritzinsky PhD is a Scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. She is Associate Professor and Director of Research at the Department of Radiation Oncology, and full member of the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto. Research in Dr. Koritzinsky's laboratory is focused on vulnerabilities in cancer that emerge because of the tumor microenvironment. Tumor hypoxia confers poor patient prognosis due to resistance to radiation and chemotherapy, and stimulation of a more aggressive phenotype. The aim of Dr. Koritzinsky’s research program is to increase our understanding of molecular and cellular responses to hypoxia, with the goal of targeting these responses to improve cancer treatment efficacy, mitigate cancer aggressiveness and improve patient outcomes. Research is focused on determining how cancer cells regulate metabolism, redox homeostasis and secretion capacity.
Quote from the Winner
Dr. Koritzinsky's commitment and innovation in leading this program has been outstanding. Under her leadership, the attention to an updated curriculum, outstanding faculty, an interactive and inclusive learning environment and principles of EDI for recruiting faculty and learners, has grown the reputation of this course across Canada and internationally.
