Biography
Dr Ayelet Kuper MD DPhil FRCPC is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and an Internist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. She is a Scientist and Associate Director at the Wilson Centre for Research in Education and is cross-appointed to the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, to the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, and to the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies (all at the University of Toronto). A child and grandchild of Holocaust survivors, she received a doctorate in Holocaust literature from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar prior to her medical training, and she continues to advocate against antisemitism in all its forms. She has been teaching and doing committee work related to social justice for a wide range of equity-seeking groups for many years; she has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, many of which are related to power, equity, and inclusion in medical education, and is frequently invited to speak on such topics internationally.

About the Award
This award recognizes the outstanding effort or achievement of an individual, program, department or faculty in improving the gender-equity environment and diversity in academic medicine in Canada. Named after May Cohen, the award is to exemplify the characteristics that she represents.
