Biography
Brian Wong is a staff general internist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Associate Professor of Medicine and Director, Centre for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety at the University of Toronto. Dr. Wong received his MD and subsequent specialty training in General Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto. After completing his residency training in 2007, he undertook a research fellowship in patient safety funded by the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation. He chaired the CanMEDS 2015 Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) Expert Working Group and published recommendations that led to the integration of QIPS as core competencies for physician training. Dr. Wong has worked with national and international organizations, including the Royal College, Choosing Wisely Canada and the Association of American Medical Colleges, to establish faculty development programs to build QIPS capacity across the learning continuum.

The Charles Mickle Fellowship was established in 1921 and is awarded annually to a member of the medical profession anywhere in the world who has “done the most within the preceding 10 years to advance and promote sound knowledge of a practical kind in the medical art or science by careful and thorough work.
