Biography

Geetha Mukerji is a Clinician in Quality and Innovation and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and Women’s College Hospital Institute of Health Systems and Virtual Care (WIHV). Her primary appointment is in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Women’s College Hospital with cross-appointment at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Through the intersection of quality improvement, education and research, she has demonstrated a sustained commitment to promote resource stewardship efforts through multiple avenues. She has been a Faculty for the Co-learning QI curriculum since 2013 and supervised many trainees in their QI projects focused on improving value and quality in healthcare. She co-developed a STARS webinar video for Choosing Wisely Canada titled “Communicating with patients and families about medically unnecessary tests and treatments”, to advance resource stewardship medical education. She was invited to co-lead the development of a Toolkit for Choosing Wisely Canada (CWC) to reduce low value unnecessary thyroid laboratory tests, and a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) national toolkit to support faculty and residents to effectively have patient-centered conversations about low-value tests. Through her successful mentorship in QI for over a decade, there are signs of a multiplier effect, with now previous students leading their own QI initiatives within their local institutions to promote high value care.
