Biography
Dr. Laura Walker obtained her medical degree at the University of Toronto. She then completed her residency in Internal Medicine and her fellowship in General Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto. She was the Chief Medical Resident at St. Michael’s Hospital during the 2016/2017 academic year. She started her Clinician Teacher position at St. Michael’s Hospital in July of 2019. Since the beginning of her appointment, Dr. Walker has spearheaded numerous teaching initiatives including the Royal college OSCE curriculum and physical exam curriculum at St. Michael’s Hospital. She has also been heavily involved in education and curriculum development in her roles as Site Director, Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU) education director, and Medical Consults co-lead. She was also heavily involved in the St. Michael’s Hospital CTU and consults education curriculum re-design. She is passionate about resident education, and she thoroughly enjoys teaching learners of all levels during her clinical weeks on CTU, medical consults, and hospitalist rotations.

"Dr. Walker was appointed Site Director in July 2023 and has been a consistent and
passionate advocate of her residents and their wellness, education, and career interests. Laura is known as learner-centered, humble, approachable and warm. Her intelligence and leadership are greatly admired by both residents and faculty alike.
Her unwavering commitment to providing the highest level of support and
dedication to the PGME is a testament to her leadership. During the pandemic, Dr. Walker worked closely with the chief medical residents to ensure that learners were up-to-date on the latest information and protocols and consistently went above and beyond to support residents. Dr. Walker also invested countless hours to ensure the accuracy and fairness of subspecialty and CTU
schedules by supporting the new education coordinators and reviewing those schedules."
About the Award
This award, also established in 2003, recognizes outstanding contributions of faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching and serve as mentors and advocates to postgraduate medical trainees. The award may acknowledge continuous or long- term excellence in instruction, career counseling, promotion of collegiality, or role modeling for postgraduate trainees.
