Biography

Dr. Andany completed medical school at the University of Toronto, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, also at the University of Toronto. She then completed a Canadian HIV Trials Network (CTN) Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at Women’s College Hospital (Toronto) and a Masters of Public Health (MPH) at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Andany is an attending physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and a Clinician Teacher and Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She is the Education Site Lead for Infectious Diseases at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, the ID Curriculum Lead for Internal Medicine, and the Program Director for the Adult Infectious Diseases Training Program at the University of Toronto. Her educational focus is on enhancing both general Infectious Diseases and HIV education for trainees at all levels.

From the Nomination

Dr. Andany has shown tremendous creativity and innovation in her development of a robust, comprehensive curriculum in HIV/AIDS for postgraduate learners. This approach has also taken into account issues of stigmatization and prejudice that makes this condition extremely challenging to live with and to treat. Dr. Andany made major contributions to the delivery of patient care through COVIDEO, she also has demonstrated tremendous creativity and innovation in developing a comprehensive educational component that addressed critical educational gaps (e.g., care of COVID-19 patients, education around virtual care) during an unprecedented health care system and societal crisis.
