Biography

Paula Rowland, PhD, is a Scientist with MD Education and the Wilson Centre. Having started her career as an Occupational Therapist, Dr. Rowland became interested in the ways the places where professionals work shape what they can know, do, learn, and teach. This interest led to a PhD in Human and Organizational Systems in 2013. Currently, Dr Rowland draws upon sociological theories to explore dynamics of knowledge, power, and identity during attempts to change healthcare work and workplaces. By connecting experiences of change and learning within clinical contexts, this program of research is of interest to educators and leaders concerned with the clinical learning environment, workplace learning, and continuing professional development. Dr Rowland also holds status only appointments with the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy and the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto.
