Biography

Sacha Agrawal is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and a staff psychiatrist and clinician educator at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. He is passionate about his clinical work supporting the recovery of individuals with severe mental illness as a member and collaborative leader of two flexible assertive community treatment teams at CAMH. Sacha’s academic interests are in the areas of health equity and social justice education. He coordinates the Severe Mental Illness training for the General Adult Psychiatry residency program at the University of Toronto and is Education Lead for the Division of Schizophrenia at CAMH. He is also the Inclusion and Co-Production Advisor at the Centre for Advancing Collaborative Healthcare and Education (CACHE).

"Dr. Agrawal is deeply committed to comprehending and addressing the social and structural determinants of health of the most marginalized patients in our society, consistently prioritizing advocacy.

Dr. Agrawal spearheaded the development and implementation of a new case-based curriculum for the PGY3 Severe Mental Illness block in our General Adult Psychiatry residency, integrating key health equity considerations. Since its June 2022 publication, the course materials have been widely requested by residency and fellowship programs, including other Canadian and US psychiatry programs."

About the Award

The Social Responsibility Award was established in 2015. This award recognizes the outstanding contributions of faculty members and residents in the development and/or implementation of socially responsible initiatives, programs or research related to postgraduate medical education. The purpose of the award is to emphasize the importance of social responsibility to postgraduate training and to acknowledge the leadership of specific individuals in helping Postgraduate Medical Education meet its social accountability mandate.
