Biography

Dr. McGeer is an infectious disease physician and epidemiologist who trained at the University of Toronto and Yale University. She is a Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, and at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, and a Senior Clinician Scientist at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of Sinai Health System. Her research interests are improving the prevention and management of infectious diseases, with a particular focus on emerging infections, including antimicrobial resistance. She was the principal investigator the for SARS CoV-1 hospital research response in Ontario, and worked with the World Health Organization on the response to MERS in Saudi Arabia, and Ebola in West Africa. She has more than 500 peer-reviewed publications and has an H-index of 106. She has received a number of national awards for research and mentorship.

About the Award

The Norman Rosenblum Award for Excellence in Mentorship in the MD/PhD Program was established in 2018 in recognition of Dr. Rosenblum’s tenure as Associate Dean, Physician Scientist Training in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and his outstanding contributions to the mentoring of MD/PhD students. The award recognizes staff or faculty members who exhibit an exemplary level of leadership and commitment to mentorship and role modeling for MD/PhD students in the Faculty of Medicine.
