Biography

Ewa Szumacher MD MEd FRCPC is a radiation oncologist at the Odette Sunnybrook Cancer in Toronto, and Full Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto. She specializes in radiation treatment of patients with breast and Genito-urinary malignancies. Dr Szumacher completed Masters in Higher Education at OISE/UT with sub-specialization in health –care professions education. Her educational research is focused on: Needs assessments of patients and healthcare providers in radiotherapy practice Enhancing patients and healthcare providers’ decisional preferences for radiotherapy treatment and Continuing Professional Development. She is a Past President of American Association for Cancer Education and Co-Director of Continuing Professional Development within the Department of Radiation Oncology University of Toronto. She received several awards such as Sunnybrook Education Research Award , Pamela Catton Interprofessional Education Award within UTDRO, and Excellence in Interprofessional CPD Award University of Toronto, Department of Radiation Oncology

Dr. Szumacher is a champion in interprofessional education, enabling excellence in radiation oncology practice, creating teaching capacity through mentorship, and establishing new standards of practice through innovation and scholarship.
