Shaheen Darani

Biography

Shaheen Darani MD completed her medical degree at McMaster University, her psychiatry residency training at the University of Toronto, and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at Yale University. She is a clinician educator and assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and staff psychiatrist at CAMH, and a passionate educator serving as the Director of Faculty Development in the Department of Psychiatry, past Site Director for Postgraduate Education at CAMH, and Interim Associate Director of Postgraduate Learner Affairs in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at UofT. Nationally, she is a member of the Royal College Forensic Subspecialty Examination Board as well as the Specialty Committee in Psychiatry. Internationally, she sits on the executive board of the Association for Academic Psychiatry where leads mentorship activities within the organization and Chairs their Career Development Committee. She is a treasured and award-winning teacher, having received numerous awards, including the American Psychiatric Association Irma Bland Award for Excellence in Resident Education, the PARO Dr. Robert Conn Resident Advocacy Award, Association for Academic Psychiatry's Early Career Development Award, the Department of Psychiatry Robin Hunter Award for Postgraduate Teaching and the Ivan Silver Award for Continuing Mental Health Education.

To our knowledge, this is the first of its kind mental health training for corrections officers that is innovative...[and] that this is informed by needs assessment, integrates selfcare, and includes evaluation to determine retention of knowledge and skills as well as sustained impact on practice and change in attitudes.
