Biography
Sunit Das is a neurosurgeon and scientist at St. Michael’s Hospital and the Hospital for Sick Kids, and Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery. Dr. Das was recruited to UT in 2010. His clinical practice is focused on the care of patients with brain tumours. His laboratory focuses on the mechanisms that regulate tumour evolution and treatment resistance in glioblastoma. His research group at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute is focused on using real-world data and meta-analysis to understand and improve outcomes for patients with brain metastases. Dr. Das currently serves as the Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusiveness at the Institute for Medical Sciences, and as the Chair of the Residency Competency Committee for the Toronto neurosurgical training program. His students and residents have gone on to training and faculty positions in science and clinical medicine at UT, McGill, UCLA, Stanford, Harvard University, and the University of Lund.
About the Award
The Norman Rosenblum Award for Excellence in Mentorship in the MD/PhD Program was established in 2018 in recognition of Dr. Rosenblum’s tenure as Associate Dean, Physician Scientist Training in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and his outstanding contributions to the mentoring of MD/PhD students. The award recognizes staff or faculty members who exhibit an exemplary level of leadership and commitment to mentorship and role modeling for MD/PhD students in the Faculty of Medicine.
