Amir Salamat MD, CCFP, FCFP

Biography

Dr. Amir Salamat graduated from medical school in 1992 in Iran, and came to Canada in 2006. As an IMG, he entered FM Residency at the University of Toronto in 2008. He has been practicing comprehensive family medicine since 2010. After coming to Canada, and before starting residency, he was actively involved in teaching and helping IMGs pass Canadian 4 exams. In 2006, he created a free study group for IMGs that soon had 1000 members. He was working in different roles as a coordinator, teacher and OSCE instructor. He also conducted a research project in 2010 entitled “The Challenges and Training Needs of International Medical Graduates during Pre Residency Program". He currently teaches medical trainees from second year students to PGY2 residents. He also supervises many IMGs as observers in his practice, with most of them subsequently entering residency or becoming licensed to practice in Canada.

About the Award

This award recognizes excellence in teaching at a community-based physician office/clinic.

Established by the Faculty of Medicine in 2012 the Community Based Teaching Awards recognize the significant contribution of an increasing number of University of Toronto community-based teachers to the learning of medical students and residents.
