Thierry Mallevaey PhD

Biography

Dr. Mallevaey joined the Department of Immunology in 2010 and has been since dedicated to the training and mentorship of graduate students inside and outside the classroom. An expert in T lymphocyte biology, Dr. Mallevaey has supervised many graduate students in his lab, all of whom have published their work in internationally recognized peer reviewed scientific journals. He received the Gillian E. Wu Graduate Mentorship in Immunology Award in 2020 in recognition of his exceptional contributions to graduate teaching and mentorship and his dedication to our graduate students. As a member of the Department of Immunology Graduate Committee, and more recently as the Associate Chair, Graduate Studies, Dr. Mallevaey contributes to the growth of our graduate programs and the shaping of our educational mission.

Thierry is highly appreciated and loved by all his current and former trainees. As seen in the supporting letters, Thierry has cultivated a lab environment where his students are well supported, intellectually stimulated, highly trained, and are encouraged to explore and express their scientific curiosity, and to maintain a healthy work-life balance. As one student put it, he has a “remarkable and unfailing dedication to student mentorship, teaching, career development, and supervision.”

About the Award

This award was established in 2002 to recognize sustained contribution to graduate student mentorship exemplified by, but not limited to: major involvement in graduate student learning, enthusiastic and empathic critical appraisal of students’ work, timely assessment of students’ research programs including program advisory committee meetings and prompt turnaround of written work, and careful attention to a critical path laid out for students’ research.
